Hi friends! This summer I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago, Illinois for a weekend getaway. It was such a fun girls trip where we were able to check out and discover the city. It is possible to travel major cities to get the best of all it has to offer, especially if you make an itinerary that allows you to visit some (or in some cases) all of the major tourist attractions.
Below is the list of places and events that we participated in during our quick 3 days weekend away:
TIP: If you are looking for a quick weekend getaway yes it’s important to have a plan, but also remember to be flexible! Travelling allows you to explore, go with the flow and also immerse yourself with a new culture. As much as you’d like to do everything on your list be mindful to also engage in unplanned activities if they come up. Have fun!
One of the best experiences I had while visiting Chicago (aside from building memories with my friend), was being able to walk around different neighbourhoods, having quick chats with strangers, enjoying the weather, city scenery and quaint neighbourhoods. The different types of restaurants and foods we were able to indulge in was the icing on the cake!
The food in Chicago is diverse (from my experience). What shocked me the most was how much seafood options there were aside from the traditional steak houses, casual eats, and European food influences.
If you’re looking for other activities I’d first suggest doing a bus tour. Touring a new city via bus tour is one of the best ways to explore because it allows you to visit all major attractions while also getting invites to each historic spot. Another great reason to tour via bus is that your ticket purchase often allows you to hop on and hop off – that means you can get off and tour an area further at your own accord and then hop back on whenever you feel like it during the day. Depending on which service you prefer (I often purchase this experience from Hop on Hop Off Bus Tours), you’ll also be able to use your purchase for the next day.
