5 dollar money challenge final update

Hello my fellow savers! I did it, I completed the 5 dollar money challenge for the first time in 2019! If you don’t know what I’m talking about let me give you a little bit of a recap. At the start of 2019 I decided to participate in a challenge that was new to me; anytime I came across 5 dollars cash and had it in my wallet I would take the 5 dollars out of my wallet and save it in a jar.

The plan included not to touch any of the 5 dollar bills collected until the end of the year in order to see if I can save some extra money. If you’d like to see the initial post of the 5 dollar challenge CLICK HERE , and for the mid-year 2019 update of the challenge to see how much I had collected CLICK HERE. I’m excited to share with you my final results. How much did I end up saving in 2019 in only 5 dollar bills? $685!

I was so amazed and excited to say the least. During my mid-year check in of the challenge I had counted about $400 saved. To know that I surpassed my goal of saving $500 in only 5 dollar bills was great. I was able to walk into the new year of 2020, the new decade with some extra money 🙂

As we move into the new year I will  definitely be doing this challenge again. As a reminder, the rules are simple: anytime you find a 5 dollar bill  in your wallet take it out and save it! Personally I have it in a jar but you can choose to save it in any container, including a money box or envelope. This challenge is a fun and easy way to spend less on things that don’t matter and save a few extra dollars. One major tip I can share with you to successfully accomplish this challenge is to keep the collected money in a place that is not easily accessible or viewable. Out of sight, out of mind, and this leads to little to no temptation in using any of the money saved.

Let me know in the comment section below if you have ever participated in a saving challenge.
