Travelling in a Tour Group

Hello fellow wonderlusters! In one of my posts last week I shared with you that I was away on vacation in both Spain and Portugal.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you’d know that I’m an avid traveller who enjoys travelling with a group and on my own. For my trip in Spain I went travelling with an amazing company called Trafalgar. My short (yet sweet) 3-day trip to Lisbon, Portugal was on my own.

Today I wanted to give you a glimpse into travelling with a tour group. If you followed my travel adventures last year you’d know that I also had the opportunity to travel with a group who I didn’t know initially so my experience with this is growing. Personally, I enjoy travelling with a travel tour group because it provides me with the opportunity to see and do so much in a short amount of time. For all experiences, I’ve had the opportunity to venture out on my own (I haven’t had to spend all of my time with the group), and it allows me to meet wonderful new people with whom I can experience new adventures with!

The tour groups that I’ve travelled with to date (both Trafalgar and One Love Travel Club) provided me with the experiences that I was looking for and so much more!

PROS

  • Using a travel tour group and being a part of said group is great because most of the travel, transportation, accommodation and itinerary is already planned out for you.
  • It makes it easier to meet people. You are with a predetermined group so if you are a shy person it’s easy to meet people in this situation since they have all decided to be on the same travel adventure with you.
  • You have the opportunity to see a lot in a short amount of time.
  • You are exposed to new experiences.
  • From my experience, you are able to do things on your own. The tour groups that I’ve been apart of provide travellers with the option to opt out of tour activities. They also provide travellers with evening/afternoons and days off to do whatever they’d like.

CONS

  • Your time is not always your own. On days where there is a packed schedule and all you want to do is chill out on your own you may not be able to do so due to travelling to the next city, or predetermined activity for that day.
  • You may not get along with everyone. There are many personalities on a group trip and some may not be your cup of tea. My advice is to get over it! You are all on an adventure so enjoy 🙂
  • It may be expensive. Depending on the duration of your trip and how many activities are, or are not covered that you may, or may not be interested in attending, travelling with a travel group may end up being more expensive than travelling on your own (especially if you don’t participate in the planned itinerary).

I would recommend travelling with a tour group if you have the opportunity to. It’s a unique experience seeing a new part of the world with strangers who then become family in such a short amount of time.

Let me know in the comment section below if you’ve ever considered travelling with a tour group.
