7 Tips on How to Prepare for a Solo Vacation

Hello fellow wanderlusts! Travel season is in full gear and I’m excited about it! I’m in the process of developing my travel plans for the rest of the year and in the process of doing so I’ve come up with 7 simple tips that I follow when preparing for a solo vacation.

  1. Build your confidence.  A question (and related comments) that I get often is how can I travel on my own? Honestly, I let go of fear and replaced it with confidence in knowing that I could do it! You have to believe in yourself that you can travel on your own. You have to be open to new experiences. Belief in yourself and ability to explore the world on your own prior to your trip helps to build your confidence to go where your heart desires.
  2. Do your research. It’s so important that you do your research when preparing to travel on your own. These days social platforms such as YouTube and Instagram are easy platforms to research on your destination of choice. However, don’t forget to also check out our 😉 best friend Google and also use the old fashion route of talking to people who have experienced a trip that you are interested in going on.
  3. Have photocopies of important documents. I.e. passport, visa, flight information, travel insurance.
  4. Save money for emergencies. This tip is self-explanatory; you never know what may happen and it’s a good idea to at least be prepared financially in case of an emergency.
  5. Purchase travel insurance. I think travel insurance is important to have because similar to above, you never know what may happen and it’s important to protect yourself. I especially recommend if you have booked for a vacation in advance; protect your purchase in case of emergency and insure your trip in case you need to reschedule or worst case scenario, cancel.
  6. Create an itinerary. I create a travel itinerary when solo travelling. I find that if I know what I’m doing while away on vacation on my own I feel less intimidated about being on my own. Additionally, it helps me to not only keep track of where I’m going but to also make the best of my trip by ensuring that I see most, if not all of the main attractions of the place that I’m visiting.
  7. Tell your family/friends where you are travelling. Once again, safety first! Tell your family/friends where you are going, and for how long. Even consider taking an extra step and sharing your flight and travel itinerary to further ensure your whereabouts are known in case an emergency comes up.

If you have any tip(s) on preparing to travel for a solo vacation let me know in the comment section below!
