Electrolytes are known as nutrients, minerals and/or chemicals that are found in bodily fluids such as your sweat and blood. Your bodily fluids carry these components as electrical charges and use them for things such as muscle functioning (contracting your muscles so you can move), maintaining fluid levels in the body, and maintaining blood acidity (pH balance).

Once I began researching more about the importance of electrolytes I started to get concerned about maintaining an adequate amount following intensive workouts. Electrolytes are lost through sweating. With that being said, on days when I have extra time to workout for prolonged periods of time at the gym, I tend to sweat a lot and subsequently lose a lot of electrolytes.

I decided to start adding electrolytes to my water to replace those that were lost. I started using Vega Sport Electrolyte Hydrator and I now consume it as I work out. Vega Sport electrolyte hydrator replenishes electrolytes, minerals and antioxidants. This is a plant-based product that has zero calories and as a product marketed towards athletes, it has been tested for WADA (world anti-doping agency) banned substances.
If you are looking to add electrolytes in a more natural manner, try eating foods such as bananas, lentils, nuts and/or dark leafy greens.
