Batch 1

My quest for sampling burgers in the city continues. A few weeks ago I visited BATCH, located at 75 Victoria Street, Toronto. This restaurant is known for their various batches of brewed beers and their handcrafted menu.

Batch 2

To start off my meal I ordered the India Pale Ale, a handcrafted beer with notes of grapefruit zest, gooseberry, lychee fruit and pine. I’ve recently gotten into drinking beers; I’d consider myself a novice beer drinker and man did this pack a punch! On my taste palette this beer starts off soft and fruity, I tasted the grapefruit, gooseberry and lychee fruit but that quickly changed pace into strong pine notes as the flavour developed. The pine brings a sharp contrast to the fruity flavours. I did enjoy the beer, but I found the pine to be a bit overwhelming and couldn’t finish my drink.

Batch 3

For my entree I ordered the classic cheeseburger and fries. The burger is made with aged beef and the fries are handcut and served with homemade ketchup. This is the most moist, flavour infused burger I’ve had in awhile. Firstly, the texture was something I haven’t had in a burger from a restaurant; it was crumbly, like each morsel was formed to create a meat patty (I’d assume this is due to the fact that it is a handmade burger). The flavouring was simple but perfect! It almost tasted like something my mother would make. What surprised me the most was how the cheese was the perfect complement to the meat. I rarely eat cheeseburgers and I found that the cheddar was the perfect complement to the meat. It was a bit salty, yet soft and gooey; coating each piece of meat as you ate it. It was delicious!

Batch 4

The handcut fries were just as good as the burger! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfectly flavoured with just the right amount of salt. The homemade ketchup added a tang of acidity and sweetness to the fries – perfect combination
