Toula Winterlicious Menu

My friend and I visited Toula Restaurant this year during Toronto’s annual Winterlicious event that ran from January 29th to February 11th. Winterlicious allows foodies such as myself to visit restaurants and eat dishes from their menu for a special price. We choose to eat a 3 course dinner meal at Toula Restaurant & Bar.

Toula Restaurant is located at the The Westin Harbour Castle on the 38th floor. It features a stunning view of the city as you dine on your meal. Upon arrival we were seated in a location for two that was away from the window but still provided a direct look into the glistening night lights of Toronto.

Toula - starter

I had the Black Tiger Shrimp “Sardinia”as my appetizer; it came served nice and warm. Three shrimp were served on a bed of pane carasau bread and surrounded with a couple of fennel and smoked taggiasce olives with tomato sauce that was made with Sauvignon Blanc wine. At first I was disappointed with the serving size as 3 shrimp did not seem like it would be filling enough for me, but I was surprised to notice that it did satisfy my hunger; it was filling but not so much as to deter me from eating my main course. All the flavours were fresh; the shrimp was cooked perfectly and not chewy, the bread was nice and crisp (it did not get soggy from the sauce), and the tomato sauce had the perfect bit of acidity and sweetness that was complimented by the saltiness of the olives.

Toula - main

For my main I ordered the Filleto “Romeo e Giulietta”; a triple AAA certified Angus beef filet that sat on top of mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a Amarone Valopolicella reduction. I had requested for the Angus filet to be cooked well done as I am not a fan of rare or medium rare meats. Once I cut into the meat after a few bites I noticed there were still hints of pink; not so much as to be off-putting. However, towards the end of eating one side of the filet, I could not eat anymore of it because it was pink all the way through. On a positive note, the filet was juicy and lightly seasoned; highlighting the natural flavours of the meat. The potatoes were perfectly buttery and the greens were nice, crisp and lightly seasoned.

For dessert I choose the Toula Dark “Chocolate Temptation” Cake; it was my birthday weekend and I had to indulge! All I have to say about it was that it was moist, chocolatey sweet goodness that provided the perfect ending to my meal!
