During the summer season, my love for smoothies was at an all-time high. I enjoyed making various concoctions and shared a few recipes with you (click here). I’ve continued to enjoy smoothies and I try and create them in the healthiest manner possible. Personally, I enjoy consuming smoothies that are high in protein. For the past month and a half I’ve been adding nutritional protein powders to my smoothies from the brand Vega One. Vega One is a plant based protein powder that provides a multitude of vitamins, minerals and protein. 20 grams of protein, 6 servings of greens, 50% daily intake of vitamins and minerals and other benefits such as fiber, omega-3 antioxidants, and probiotics all with only 170 calories! This product comes in an array of flavours ranging from, chocolate, to vanilla chai and mixed berry.

I’ve had the opportunity to try a few different protein powder products and I find that Vega One provides me with the most vitamins, minerals and proteins. I really enjoy how there are many flavours to choose from that are delicious and healthy for you. Recently I’ve added more vegetarian meals to my diet so the fact that this product is plant-based is an added bonus.
When making a smoothie, I enjoy a thick and non-runny texture so I often make it with soy milk and add in a couple of fruits (a banana to create a creamier texture, or berries to add a tart and sweet flavour combination). Personally, I find that some of the flavours offered can be a bit chalky to taste if not mixed well. So I always add fruits, and any other item I can think of to limit any potential chalky taste I may experience. For example, when using the chocolate protein powder I always mix it with almond milk, 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon of organic peanut butter, a handful of almonds, and one banana.

Throughout my healthy lifestyle change, breakfast has always been a difficult meal for me to consume. Since I’ve incorporated smoothies in my diet and drink them during breakfast time I’ve enjoyed the ability to nourish my body quickly, easily and in a way that tastes great too.
