Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors

Hi all! This past week I attended one of the most anticipated exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Ontario; Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors.

Before I showcase some of her amazing pieces of art, I’d like to send out a huge thank you to Dave Lackie for the opportunity to attend! This is a sough-after exhibit and tickets here in Toronto, Ontario are difficult to obtain because everyone wants to see her art! As of now, tickets are available in batches and you can attend during specific periods.

A few unique things to note about the exhibit is how you are allowed about 20-30 seconds inside each infinity room. A 5 second warning is provided by an attendant for you to take in the last few bits of her work in the room. Also, I liked how various quotes are provided throughout the exhibit to bring you along her artistic journey and to help you get to know Yayoi Kusama a bit more.

Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary Japanese artist who is known not only for her paintings, but also art installations, fashion, film and photography. One of the ways to easily identify her work is through her signature dots.

I was not familiar with Yayoi Kusama prior to viewing her work and was able to do a little bit of research about the type of person she is and what inspires her and keeps her creating beautiful pieces of art. I highly suggest you take the time to learn more about Yayoi Kusama as she is such an inspiring person.

One of the well known reasons for Yayoi Kusama’s art is her infinity rooms. These are very small rooms covered in mirrors that reflect the art that has been displayed inside it. When you first step in its kind of alarming because mentally you know that you’re in a small room yet it looks so big! Also, you see reflections of the same thing all around you multiplied to infinity. It’s such a cool and artistic experience!

If you have the opportunity to view her art I highly suggest you do! It left me in awe and I’m so creatively inspired!
