5 Questions to Ask Yourself When Planning to Travel

Hello fellow Wonderlusters! 2017 is quickly coming to an end and it’s time to start planning for 2018 adventures! If you’re like me it can be a bit overwhelming to plan for what part of the world you want to visit but it’s a must if you want to make your travel wishes come true!

Below are five questions I ask myself when planning for my travel year:

  • Can I afford it? Before planning any of my trips I first have to consider my budget. If I haven’t planned for a trip by clearly identifying how I’ll be able to pay for it then I’m not planning for it.
  • When do I want to go? When planning for the year it’s important for me to identify when I want to go. I don’t necessarily need to know the exact day(s) of when I’ll be on vacation but I should at least have in mind the month of when I’m away travelling. This is important because it helps me to not only budget my finances but it also gives me a good idea of how long it will take for me to save for a trip.
  • Is it a safe place to visit? Regardless if I’m travelling with a group or on my own I always do my research to ensure that it’s a safe place for me (as a foreigner) to travel.
  • Do I want to chill, go on adventures or both? Depending on what I’m in the mood for, deciding between an all inclusive resort trip, a trip with multiple excursions or a mix of both is important because what I choose to do during my time of travel will have an impact on how much I plan to spend on my trip. And this goes back to the first point I made; regardless of what type of adventure I choose can I afford it?
  • Do I plan on travelling on my own or with others? This year was monumental for me because I decided to travel on my own for the first time! On another trip, I ended up travelling with a group. Now that I know I can travel both on my own and with others I now need to think about if I want to travel on my own or with others. Oh the options!

Let me know in the comment section how you plan for your travel year.
