Union Chicken is one of the newest restaurants located at Sherway Gardens here in Toronto, Ontario. I recently had the chance to visit the restaurant thanks to a friend’s recommendation.

To start, I ordered the herbed margarita. Hands down this is the most unique margarita I’ve had all year! It’s made with a mix of Altos tequila, triple sec, cilantro, lime and rimmed with salt. These ingredients sound so simple, but my goodness they are fantastic together! All the flavours mixed well and thankfully the bartender was not cheap with the amount of tequila that was poured into my glass.

For my main meal I ordered the fried chicken with fries on the side. To say I was impressed with the whole meal would be an understatement! Let’s start with the chicken. As you can see these fried pieces of chicken were placed onto a plate of gravy that included a splash of hot sauce and maple honey syrup. I know this must sound like a weird combination but I promise you it isn’t!

The sauce and chicken go perfectly together. The chicken is deep fried; crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. When paired with the sauce on the plate it adds a hint of sweetness with a slash of heat thanks to the hot sauce.  I’m telling you, it’s delicious!

Last but not least I have to talk about the fries. They were fried to perfection as well. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside (similar to how the fried chicken was made). Surprisingly, they were not oily and tasted great alongside fried chicken. The icing on the top is the sauce that is served with the fries. It’s a creamy, slightly tangy sauce that provides a depth of flavour to the fries. Both items were not oily and complimented each other well.

I highly recommend checking out Union Chicken if you have the chance!
