Stair Workout

This past month I’ve been obsessed with adding cardio to my workout routines. In particular, I’ve been obsessed with using the stair machine rather than the traditional treadmill that I’ve generally used when incorporating cardio into my workouts.

I find that using the stair machine has helped not only with my heart health, but also with building up the stamina in my legs and helping them stay toned. I find the stair machine more challenging to use as my whole body is often screaming out to me in pain within 15 minutes. By 30 minutes into my workout I’m drenched in sweat!

I decided to search the internet to see what the benefits of using the stair machine are. Below are the top benefits that I found across the net:

  • Climbing stairs helps to burn calories in a short period of time
  • Climbing stairs helps to build strength throughout your entire leg; from your calves, thighs, hamstrings and buttocks
  • Climbing stairs helps to build endurance
  • Climbing stairs contributes to good cholesterol (this is important for the health of your heart)

There are many more benefits to climbing stairs and I will continue climbing them during each workout.

Below is one of my favourite 30min beginner/intermediate level routines that I like to do for a fat-burning stair workout

  • 5 minutes warm-up at level 55
  • 5 minutes at level 60
  • Increase stair level every 5 min until you reach 30 minutes of your cardio stair workout
  • 5 minute cool down at level 50

Thank you for this stair workout guide. I attempted to do a stair workout previously and was unsuccessful. I shall incorporate this into my workout routine going forward.
