Minimalism

I stumbled on minimalism by accident. Last year, one of my major focuses was getting rid of my debt. In doing so, I was looking for ideas that would motivate me to not purchase things that I did not need. Then came minimalism.

From my understanding, minimalism is a way of living in which you live with things that you are actually going to use. It discourages activities such as hoarding and collecting things, and focused on quantity over quality. Am I a minimalist. Kinda. I am someone who has incorporated concepts of it into my lifestyle.

  • I no longer collect things, such as beauty products, and clothes. One of my weaknesses used to be collecting nail polish. If you follow my blog you’ll know that doesn’t make sense because I get my manicure done professionally and I don’t need too many nail polish shades for my at-home pedicures.
  • I actively seek out to use the things I own. This sounds easy but it isn’t. I used to be the type to stop using a product once its half way used up because I’d be eager to try something else. Not any more; I use my items to the last drop!

The benefits that I’ve found to implementing these qualities to my lifestyle is that I’m saving more money! On top of that, I’ve gotten really good at not “needing” things on impulse and really thinking about where my money is going, how I’m going to use a product and the impact it’s going to have to my life; the value add. This has been an interesting journey for me that I focus on making myself better at every month. By no means do I think or want to become a full blown minimalist (because truthfully I like stuff), but I will continue implementing aspects of this lifestyle into my life because I find it provides me with balance.
