Summerlicious 2016 kicked off last Friday here in Toronto and as a foodie, to say I was excited would be an understatement! This time, I choose to visit a restaurant that I was not familiar with; Arisu Korean & Japanese Restaurant. Located at 584 Bloor Street West, Arisu Korean & Japanese Restaurant offers patrons a variety of Korean, Japanese, Korean, Barbecue, and Sushi meals.

I choose to  visit the restaurant for their dinner menu, I was able to select from a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts. I ate the Sweet & Spicy Korean Chicken as an appetizer, Aberdeen Black Angus Table BBQ as my entree and the Anmitsu as dessert. To drink I tried the Sake Bottle.

As expected, I loved the Sweet & Spicy Korean Chicken! Each piece of chicken had a breaded coating that was deep fried and covered in a tangy sweet and spicy sauce and topped with a sprinkle of chili flakes and pickled radish on the side. Each piece of chicken was nice and crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. The sauce was not overwhelming and the pickled radish helped to cleanse the pallet after each piece of chicken eaten.

One of my favourite meals to eat is a Korean BBQ and this one did not disappoint! The Aberdeen Black Angus Table BBQ came with a multitude of sides and meats. My friend and I didn’t even get to eat them all; it was too much food! The main sources of protein for the BBQ were locally raised seasoned and marinated grass-fed black angus beef. We were served with rice on the side.  The cuts of meat were soft, tender and flavourful. It’s always fun to go out and eat Korean BBQ meals because cooking that part of the meal makes for an exciting activity during dinner!

For dessert I had the Japanese-style ice cream; it consisted of mixed fruits (blueberries, strawberries, and pineapples) red beans (served on the bottom of the ice cream) & rice cake topped with brown sugar syrup. I’ll be honest, I was hesitant to eat the red beans because the thought of eating beans as a dessert does not often cross my mind. But, the combination of the beans and all the other dessert items worked so well together! I found that the beans took upon any flavour that it was paired with so it all tasted very good.
