Coconut Oil

Keeping my skin moisturized is a major part of my skincare routine during the cold season. Once fall ends, I immediately switch up my skincare by adding coconut oil. If you are not familiar with coconut oil,  it is full of benefits; including retaining moisture in the skin. Coconut oil also acts as a natural sunscreen, and has anti-aging properties.

Coconut oil is composed of a high concentration of saturated fats (called Medium Chain Triglycerides) and lauric acid. The high concentration of fats, acid and other vitamins and minerals found in coconut oil have all been said to have medicinal qualities that help to ward off bacteria, fungi, infections and viruses.

Personally, I use coconut oil as is; I slather it all over my body as soon as I get out of the shower. I let it soak into my skin for a few minutes before putting on my clothes. When I wake up, I have soft, silky smooth skin! When my skin is extra dry, I’ll mix my coconut oil with a body butter for extra moisture. I know that coconut oil is often used as a healthier option for cooking with, but surprisingly I’ve never cooked with it. I enjoy using it so much as a beauty product that I don’t want to put it in a pan.

Have you ever used coconut oil as a beauty product? Check out my other favourite oil to use as a beauty product; olive oil.
